Rajya Sabha to meet from December 11 to January 8

New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha will meet from December 11 to January 8 during the winter session of parliament with President Ram Nath Kovind issuing the formal summons for convening the house. According to an official announcement, the upper house will have 20 sittings during the session. The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, had met earlier this month and decided the dates of parliament’s winter session. (IANS)

Badrinath shrine closed for winter break

Dehradun, Nov 20: The portals of the Badrinath temple were closed for the winter break on Tuesday amid rituals and chanting of hymns, authorities said. The gates were closed at 3:21 p.m. Badrinath was the last of the four shrines - Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri — to close for the six-month winter break. Officials said 5,237 pilgrims visited the flower-decked shrine of Badrinath on the last day of the year’s ‘dharshan’. Bands played religious tunes as the gates closed. The gates of the Kedarnath and Yamunotri shrines closed for the winter recess on November 9 while the Gangotri temple closed on November 8. (IANS)

Twitter India apologizes on Dorsey poster row

New Delhi, Nov 20: Twitter has extended an apology after its CEO Jack Dorsey, who visited India last week, was seen holding a poster during a round-table with women journalists that read “Smash Brahminical Patriarchy”. “I’m very sorry for this. It’s not relective of our views. We took a private photo with a gift just given to us — we should have been more thoughtful,” Vijaya Gadde, Global Head of Legal, Policy, Trust and Safety Lead at Twitter, tweeted late Monday. (IANS)
