Restrictions To Be Imposed As Third-Wave Of Covid-19 Arrives In Nagpur

Nagpur: On Monday, the State Energy Minister of Maharashtra, Nitin Raut, announced that the third wave of Covid-19 has arrived in Nagpur and restrictions related to the pandemic will soon be imposed in the city.

Raut had organised a review meeting with the senior administrative officers from various state departments which included revenue, police and heath. After a proper evaluation of the situation, Raut declared that the third wave of Covid-19 has now reached Nagpur.

Speaking to the media, Raut said, "The third wave has set its foot in the city as two consecutive days have seen new cases in double digits."

"Restrictions on shops and other establishments will be re-imposed after authorities decide the dates in two to three days," he continued.

He added, "The restrictions are necessary as it is our prime duty to save the lives of people."

A total of 10 Covid-19 cases were registered on Sunday while 13 cases were registered on Monday in Nagpur. According to Raut, these were indications of the arrival of the third-wave in the city.

The Vidarbha region had witnessed a sharp decline in Covid-19 cases in August and there were no Covid-19 related deaths reported on most days. On August 17, the district had enjoyed full relaxation in regard to Covid-19 related restrictions.

However, a compulsory institutional quarantine had been ordered by the Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B, irrespective of a patient being impatient about 10 days ago. This made Nagpur the first city to announce such a measure.

Meanwhile, the city has witnessed no deaths on most days in the month of August and the first week of September.
