NEW DELHI: The Russian invasion of Ukraine has brought into focus the Indian students moving to other countries for medical education and this rouse concern about the same course in India.

The Indian students had faced a distressing situation after thousands of them were left stranded in the war-hit country of Ukraine.

According to reports, a huge number of students from India move to foreign countries mostly Ukraine to get a medical degree and to become a doctor. The main reason for this is the easy accessibility of medical seats and the low cost of education in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, raising concern over the matter Indian Billionaire and entrepreneur Anand Mahindra has directed his team to built medical colleges so that Indian students can be admitted and can complete medical studies in their own country.

The Chairman of the Mahindra Group took to Twitter to share that he had no idea about the shortage of medical colleges in India and asked CP Gurnani, the Tech Mahindra CEO if they could explore the idea of establishing medical institutions on the campus of Mahindra University.

The tweet on Thursday 3 March by the 66-year-old leading businessman was retweeted over 6,000 times and received 32.4K likes. It has received much attention from netizens as people loved his decision and look forward to medical colleges in India.

The Mahindra University (École Centrale School of Engineering) was established recently in the year 2020 in the Bahadurpally region near Hyderabad of Telangana.

Anand Mahindra is the Chancellor of Mahindra University and CP Gurnani is the board member of the institution.

Along with his tweet, the businessman quoted the tweet by the Times of India where it shows the chart of a number of medical students in different countries as per the Ministry of External Affairs. The list shows China at the top with the highest number of Indian students i.e. 23,000 students studying medicine.

Gurnani also shared a tweet replying to the Executive Mahindra Chairperson where he wrote that the health sector has been a focus area in technology. It is not on the university's immediate road map but the team will evaluate for the future.
