Tamil Nadu BJP Won't Allow Imposition Of Hindi, Says Party Chief Annamalai

The Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai said that Hindi imposition will not be accepted and the state BJP unit won't allow this to happen.

CHENNAI: Amid the controversy over the imposition of the Hindi language across the country, now BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader K Annamalai has stated that this will not be allowed in Tamil Nadu.

On Tuesday 12 April, the TN BJP chief while speaking at a press conference said that the BJP unit in the state will not accept the Hindi language imposition.

He further made it clear that the BJP in Tamil Nadu won't allow Hindi imposition instead the party will be proud if Tamil becomes the link language in the country.

Annamalai further said that earlier the Congress party attempted to impose the Hindi language when it was in power but it was clearly opposed back at that time also.

The statement by the Tamil Nadu BJP leader came after the Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the imposition of the Hindi language and gave emphasis on the requirement to accept Hindi as an alternative to the English language and not to local languages.

During the press conference on Tuesday, Annamalai also spoke about the rising petrol and diesel prices across the country. He asked the Tamil Nadu government to provide relief to the citizens by reducing the tax on fuel.

The BJP leader said that all state government has taken initiative in reducing the fuel tax and the TN government should also reduce it.

He further added that the Central government is currently working to get fuel from Russia but till then the state government must reduce the taxes so that this gives a bit of relief to the people.

It may be mentioned that the Northeast Students' Organization (NESO) has also raised its voice against the imposition of Hindi as a compulsory subject in northeast schools and wrote a letter to the Home Minister in this regard.

The organization in its letter to the Home Minister said that it completely opposed such unfavourable policy and urged to take initiative to uplift the indigenous languages.
