Union Education Minister Says Assam Will Be "Laboratory" For Language-Based Education

GUWAHATI: Assam would serve as a "laboratory" for a caste, tribal, and language-based education system, said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday.

Speaking at the Northeast Education Conclave at the GMCH auditorium in Guwahati, the education minister stated that the northeastern states jointly teach as many as 180 languages, making Assam a crucial state in the BJP-ruled region.

"In the northeastern states, there are 180 regional languages, and we want Assam to be the test bed for a caste, tribal, and language-based education system." The minister declared, "Every resource needed for this will be prioritised by the federal government."

The minister went on to remark that the students are the most essential stakeholders in the national education programme that was enacted last year. "From pre-kindergarten through post-secondary, the NEP is focused on developing the necessary learning capacities, providing students with 21st-century knowledge and competence, and preparing our children to be global citizens," he added.

"Guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, we are formulating a plan to build Special Education Zones to achieve educational equity across the country." He stated that Guwahati's immense potential as an academic centre for the north-east and the country might be realised.

According to the Union education minister, Assam might be the first state in India to spend as much as 6% of its GDP on education. In addition, considering the growing importance of bio-mass-based renewable energy in the northeast, the minister noted that students' awareness of alternative energy sources will be an integral part of their educational curriculum, paving the way for greater economic growth.
