Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani launches app for weavers on National Handloom Day

Guwahati: On the occasion of the 6th National Handloom Day, the Minister of Textiles, Smriti Zubin Irani, announced the launch of a handloom portal today on her official social media accounts.

She wrote, "My Handloom Portal' launched today is the one-stop platform for information on everything related to handloom. This portal will allow weavers' and other stakeholders to track applications in real-time, thereby enhancing transparency & increasing efficiency. #Vocal4Handmade."

The Union Ministry of Textiles on Thursday released a statement announcing that it would be marking the sixth National Handloom Day, scheduled on Friday, through a virtual event to avoid a gathering amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The event was attended by Union Minister Smriti Irani, who was the Chief Guest for the occasion, while Secretary Textiles Ravi Kapoor was the Guest of Honour. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur also attended the event.
