Hyderabad: On Sunday, a youth had gone missing while trying to cross the Mahendra Tanaya river after cyclone Gulab hit the region.

The youth, who hailed from Sailada village, was allegedly swept away by the river during the cyclonic storm. He is identified as G. Ramu.

According to reports, on Sunday evening, the arrival of cyclone Gulab had resulted in heavy rainfall spreading across the north of Andhra Pradesh and the south Odisha coast, about 20 km from Kalingapatnam.

In another report from national media, a big tree fell over a house that falls under the Khairput block of Malkangiri district. The three members of the family residing in the house, however, managed to escape narrowly.

In addition, Odisha has evacuated about 40,000 people in six of its southern districts as a precaution against the incoming cyclone Gulab.

"We have not yet received reports any major damages caused by the cyclone. We are expecting the wind speed to be around 50 km per hour when the cyclone passes over Odisha," said Pradeep Kumar Jena, who is the Special Relief Commissioner of Odisha.

As per the reports issued by the Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam, the northern coast of Andhra Pradesh is likely to witness strong winds with a speed of 40 to 50 km/hr, gusting to 60 km/hr.
