Guwahati: In celebration of Republic Day, Guwahati is hosting a special vintage car event that will showcase Assam's automotive history. On January 26, the Heritage Automobile Association of Assam will organize a vintage car exhibition at Geeta Mandir High School field. The event will feature a stunning collection of classic cars, showcasing the design and craftsmanship of past eras.
The exhibition aims to honor the legacy of vintage automobiles, highlighting their historical importance and role in shaping automotive culture. It also seeks to promote the preservation of Assam’s automotive history, offering a nostalgic look at iconic vehicles.
This event is part of a long-standing tradition, with similar exhibitions held in previous years. Last year, 20 classic cars were displayed, and in 2023, 30 vintage cars, including models like the 1942 Jeep and 1979 Mercedes, were showcased. The event also includes a rally where vintage cars parade through the city.
Meanwhile, over 135 individuals from Assam, including women, youth, farmers, and entrepreneurs, will participate as special invitees in the 76th Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path, New Delhi, on January 26. This initiative reflects the government’s focus on promoting ‘Jan Bhagidari’ in national events.
Among the invited guests are Niresh Chandra Barman, a farmer, Reena Daimary, an entrepreneur, Raju Uraon, a forester, Sabita Terongpi, a Lakhpati Baideu Scheme beneficiary, and Pramod Saikia, a PM Surya Ghar Scheme beneficiary. In addition to the parade, they will visit major landmarks and interact with Union Ministers, celebrating their contributions to society.
