Shillong: Meghalaya Police’s second batch of Special Force 10 (SF-10) is expected to complete their specialized commando training by next month. Four hundred and fourty Special Force-10 men and women are on the last leg of their specialized combat training at the Assam Rifles Commando Training School in Dimapur, divulged Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) H Nongpluh during an interaction with The Sentinel on Monday.

The first batch (2016) of the SF-10 virtually wiped out the Garo Hills Liberation Army (GNLA) in their first two years of deployment in the militancy-affected district of Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills. Their success was highly rated in counter-insurgency operations. Then, just in the midst of the road to success against the Garo Hills-based extremist, the State Government went for fresh recruitment of the specialized State commando force with the same objective.

Young men and women were recruited and while normalcy has returned to Garo Hills, the motive for having the fresher’s is the same. “The (SF-10) second batch is not only trained by the Assam Rifles but there are others who had gone for specialized commando training with the Grey Hounds in Telangana”, informed the ADGP.

Interestingly, out of the 440, eighty six of them are women who had to undergo the same strenuous training of a commando. Boasting that the feedback received from the two training centres about the vigour of the trainees are very positive, Nongpluh added that another 196 more recruits have been chosen for the next round of training that will last for eight months.
