72 Villages Inundated in Dibrugarh District

Dibrugarh: The number of villages inundated by the ongoing floods caused by the Brahmaputra rose to 72 on Saturday. Among those, the most prominent villages are – 10 villages under Chabua Revenue Circle, 44 villages under Dibrugarh West Revenue Circle, 8 under Dibrugarh East Revenue Circle, 9 of Moran Revenue Circle and one under Tingkhong Revenue Circle.

As per reports of Dibrugarh District Disaster Management Department, 45, 545 people and 38,803 animals of the said revenue circles have been affected. The district administration has, thus far, set up two relief centres under Chabua Revenue Circle, three under Dibrugarh East Revenue Circle and one under Dibrugarh West Revenue Circle. The Circle Officers, representing the district administration, have been visiting the flood affected regions, taking stock of the situation. They also distributed relief materials among the victims, wherever necessary.

Around 4,258 people are taking shelter in six relief centres. Moreover, the Livestock and Veterinary Department has been holding animal treatment and vaccination camps in the regions battered by floods. Medicals team from the Health Department are also extending their services in such areas, apart from Public Health Engineering Department, which is distributing unadulterated water and water purifying tablets among the flood-affected people. The district administration has also taken necessary measures to cater to the food requirements of the children living in the relief camps.
