SHILLONG, June 22: The All Mawsynram Constituency People’s Conference (AMCPC) on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya Prestone Tynsong who is also the PWD Road Minister, apprising him on the deplorably road condition from Hawmawdon to Dangar village.

Speaking to reporters, AMCPC president, Gilbert G Kharraswai said, “We have requested the government to immediately start repairing work on the 26 km road from Hatmawdon to Dangar as it has posed plenty of problems to the local residents of the area.”

He informed that there is a total stretch of about 50 km plus which needs repair.

He informed that the Dy CM has assured them that the matter would be taken up with the concerned department to examine the road condition and necessary action to be taken. He further informed that it has been about 20 years since the department of roads last repaired the road, especially the Hatmawdon- Dangar segment.

“In our constituency about 80 percent of the people depend on agriculture and its produce for their livelihood; but with the present road condition it has become very difficult for them to transport their produce to Shillong and other areas.

The AMCPC during its meeting with the DyCM has also appealed to the government to study the feasibility report to upgrade the C&RD Block Mawsynram to a Civil Sub Division as the same is one of the oldest Block created prior to the inception of Meghalaya State.
