SHILLONG: Congress MLA from East Shillong constituency Ampareen Lyngdoh questioned the idea of common candidate of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) when the United Democratic Party (UDP) had already announced the name of its candidate to contest the Lok Sabha polls in 2019.

Speaking to The Sentinel, Lyngdoh said, “How can you say common candidate when the UDP has already announced the name of a candidate to contest the MP election from Shillong seat.”

It may be reminded that the UDP on last month has declared the name of Jemino Mawthoh, general secretary of the party to contest the election while the Hills State Peoples Democratic Party (HSPDP) has proposed the name of MLA of Mawkyrwat, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar as the common candidate for the Lok Sabha elections from Shillong constituency.

“The Congress is preparing for both the MP and MDC election slated for next year and we are not thinking about who will be contesting against our candidate because all our party worker and members are currently working hard to ensure that the Congress candidate wins the election.”

She also stated that the party will work tirelessly to ensure that the Congress wins in both the Shillong and Tura Parliamentary seats in 2019. Lyngdoh also informed that the party will also soon meet to discuss on the MP seat in Tura constituency.

It may be mentioned that the BJP has also expressed its intension to contest the Lok Sabha seat from both Shillong and Tura seat.
