Assam: Youth body launches Protest against encroachment

JOYSAGAR: The Asom Sangrami Yuba-Chatra Parishad (ASYCP) Sivasagar District Committee members and leaders staged a protest in front of the Nazira Civil SDO’s office on Monday. ASYCP Sivasagar district president Arup Ali Borah alleged that some dishonest coal traders of Simaluguri and Nazira had started few dens near the ancient Talatal Ghar in Gargaon village under Simaluguri PS of Nazira subdivision. These illegal dens of coal and stone are used as stock-keeping sites within the jurisdiction of the ancient monument sites. The Supreme Court of India has directed that there can be no such dens and stock sites within 300 square metre of ancient monuments. These dens of coal-stone are also allegedly polluting the ancient monuments and their surroundings.

Besides, some people have already encroached some land of the historic Talatal Ghar area in front of the eyes of the Sivasagar archeological department authority. The ASYCP has demanded concrete steps to protect and preserve the historic Talatal Ghar of Gargaon.

Moreover, the leaders of the organization also alleged that land of the historic Shingha Dwar and Hahchara Garh under Nazira and Simaluguri PS had been illegally encroached upon and the organization has demanded a proper survey of the land of historical monuments and eviction drives in these areas to protect and preserve the historical monuments of Simaluguri and Nazira. The leaders submitted separate memoranda to the Nazira SDO and to the Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner.
