At least 6 civilians, 3 militants and a soldier died in Kashmir’s Pulwama encounter

Guwahati: In a sudden misfortune caused during a protest rally brought out by locals against an anti-militancy operation in Sirnoo village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, at least 6 civilians are killed and dozens of other people are injured on Saturday. The incident of multiple deaths in the protest has been triggering quite a tension in the region.

As stated by army officials, the deceased include three militants and a soldier. The identities of the militants are yet to be ascertained. However, the civilians are identified as Shahbaz Ali of Monghama village, Suhail Ahmad of Bellow, Liyaqat Ahmad of Parigam, Amir Ahmad Palla of Ashminder and Abid Hussain Lone of Kareemabad. The sixth person is not identified yet.

The operation was launched by the security forces, a joint operation of police and army in the early morning in Sirnoo village. The protesters, a herd of civilians, on the other hand, were trying to disrupt the operation. As the protesters were trying to provide a safe passage to trapped militants, the security forces had to release firings. At this, several civilians sustained injuries and later succumbed.

The situation became so grave that the authorities had to suspend internet services in Pulwama along with also stopping train services between Srinagar and Banihal.

However, the militancy issue in Kashmir has taken such a rise that every year many militants and security personnel are losing their lives in encounters and militant attacks. In the current year, at least 44 policemen were killed in different militant attacks and this has thus, become the highest number of casualties in the state since 2006.
