Shillong: The well-known Autumn Festival will once again resurface with the same glitz and glamour after a gap of five years at Umiam Lake on 26 and 27 of October 2018. Marking the onset of a season, it is mainly celebrated in Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya.

This is actually a cultural extravaganza that reflects the rich culture of the nation. The festival acts as a great platform to display the culture of the place and get transformed into a center of fun and frolic for tourists.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Alethea Kynta who is a member of Opus Production (that is organizing the show) said, "The festival was started in the year 2006 by Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum (MTDF) and it continued till 2012 and that was the last edition. Hence it's been five years now that the festival has not been organized and because of this we want to revive this well-known festival."

She pointed out that Nagaland, Manipur and other North Eastern States usually have such festivals which are popular across the country. Hence is the idea came to revive the Autumn Festival.

The festival also provides business opportunities for local craftsmen who display as well as sell various handicraft items during this festival.

She informed that the revival of Autumn Festival is due to the support and help from former Home Minister RG Lyngdoh.

"We had a meeting with members of the MTDF and we also displayed our presentation to them as we want to ensure them that their good work will continue because at the end of the day they are the ones who created and came up with the festival hence we want the standard remains the same," she said, adding that after the presentation the MTDF gave them the NOC to go ahead in with festival.

She also informed that around 80 percent of the expenditure for the festival will be incurred by them and the remaining 20 percent will be taken up by their sponsors. Meanwhile, Andrias War also a member of Opus Production said, "We want this festival to continue after this revival."
