Bharat Kala Ratna Award 2018: Assam Satriya Danseuse Dr Anwesha Mahanta Awarded

Guwahati: The prestigious Bharat Kala Ratna Award 2018 has been awarded to noted Sattriya danseuse from Assam, Dr. Anwesha Mahanta.

Navanittam Cultural Trust, a cultural institute based in Kerala’s Thrissur presented her with this award for her contribution to Sattriya.

The award was presented to Anwesha at a function attended by art enthusiasts and held in the Kerala Sangeet Natak Akademi Auditorium.

Vijay Kumar, who is the Founder Director of the Navanittam Cultural Trust, India honored Anwesha Mahanta with a citation, angavastra and a cash award.

The noted Satriya dancer had earlier brought laurels to the state when she had been conferred the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of the Sangeet Natak Akademi. Akansha Mahanta ‘s dazzling performances, research works, and lecture demonstrations have been appreciated and revered across India and the world.

Anwesha holds a Ph.D. from the University of Delhi and has received the prestigious Charles Wallace Fellowship (2015). She did her Post-Doctoral research at Queen’s University in Belfast, United Kingdom.
