SHILLONG, May 20: The Sohryngkham Presbyterian Lower Primary School on May 18, inaugurated their 100 years centenary celebration in the presence of Mawryngkneng MLA David Nongrum, Sohryngkham MDC Pyniaid Sing Syiem and general secretary of All Meghalaya Primary Teachers’ Association FC Shullai among others.

The school has provided its service to the people of Sohryngkham by imparting education to the youths since the year 1918. The school was established by Welsh Missionary and later was run by the sub-district Mawshai Laishnat.

Speaking at the centenary celebration, Pyniaid Sing Syiem said, “There is hope that this school will continue to cater to the needs of the youths of Sohryngkham by providing quality education like it has done for the past 100 years.” He said the government has intensions to implement the much awaited education policy in the state and this will benefit the schools as they can further impart quality education to the youths across the state.

Meanwhile, David Nongrum in his speech said that he will extend his support to the school and church leaders to further improve the school.

The MLA lauded the efforts put in by the teachers and the managing committee of the school for their hard work while continuing to provide good and quality service to the students. Before concluding his speech he also promised to donate rupees five lakh to the school.
