Cherry Blossom Festival ends in Shillong

SHILLONG: The India International Cherry Blossom Festival, 2018 organized by the Forest & Environment Department, Government of Meghalaya and Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (ISBD), Government of India in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Government of India concluded today here at 5th Ground, Polo, Shillong. The festival got underway on November 14, 2018.

The closing ceremony was graced by State Forest and Environment Minister Lahkmen Rymbui as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering at the closing ceremony, Rymbui said that the festival not only showcased the timely blossoming of the cherry tree in the State but also gave an opportunity for the State and the whole of the north-eastern region to display its rich cultural heritage.

Stating that festivals are a way of connecting the region to other parts of the country and abroad, Rymbui said that the festival also created an opportunity for cultural exchange between Japan and the north-eastern region.

The programme was also attended by PCCF & HoFF, Meghalaya, CP Marak, Regional Director, ICCR, Shillong, N. Munish Singh and representatives from the Embassy of Japan in India, among others.

During the programme, the chief guest handed over certificates to the winners of Drawing & Painting and Japanese Cosplay competitions.
