CM for collective effort to fight substance abuse

Shillong, July 7: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday strongly emphasized on the need of taking collective effort to fight substance abuse to a higher level. Speaking as the chief guest at a seminar on the theme “Substance, Suicide and Adolescents: Effects of Substance Abuse and Suicide in Adolescents” held at St Antony’s College, the CM said that one cannot fight this battle by simply putting various measures to check and stop the flow of different substances into the State. He said that it is time for the coming together of the politician, academician, health sector and society in general to be able to find some kind of way forward to tackle the problem.

He also reminded that the future of our state, country and global economy is really dependent on how the energy of the youth is channelize, adding that the government can only create the policies and the infrastructures while the youth will have to determine the future of the nation.

The Chief Minister stressed on the need to set up counseling centres and support system for the youth to ensure that whenever young people are faced with any challenge, stress and difficulties in life, they are guided in the right direction.
