Crime against children on rise: WJH SP

Shillong, May 15: West Jaintia Hills, police chief, Vivek Syiem on Tuesday said that there is a perceptible increase in crime against children in the district.

Syiem, pointed out that this year alone 17 cases under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO)Act have been registered till date. According to the West Jaintia Hills, Superintendent of Police three cases have been charge sheeted while 14 cases are being investigated. The police chief also informed that thirteen persons have been arrested so far in 2018 itself for sexual offences against children. Meanwhile, Syiem also informed that on Tuesday that the police arrested one person on charges of sodomy. He said that on Monday, an FIR was received that on May 13 at 9 pm one 12 year minor boy was abducted by one person and was sexually assaulted. In this regard a case vide Jowai police station Case No. 107(5)2018 u/s 23 JJ Act r/w Sec 3(a)/4 POCSO Act was registered and on investigation one Sanki Ksoo was identified and arrested on May 14. He is now remanded to Judicial custody. Similarly on the same day another case was reported from Khliehtyrshi, Moopyllaitsyiar where a 15 year old girl was sexually assaulted by one Deibor Talang-(36) since 2014.

While a case has been registered in this regard, the accused is absconding.
