Delhi Congress Leaves the Decision of an Alliance with AAP to its Party Chief

Guwahati: Former Chief Minister of Delhi and state Congress President Sheila Dikshit along with other leaders of the party held a meeting with Party Chief Rahul Gandhi and discussed the possibility of an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

According to a report, the AICC in-charge of Delhi Congress PC Chacko handed over signed letters of 12 district Congress Presidents, leaders of the party and councilors in three municipal corporations in favour of the alliance to Rahul Gandhi.

According to sources, everyone in the meeting wants that the party chief should take a final call on it in the larger interests of the party.

It has also been reported that four former Delhi Congress Presidents namely Ajay Maken, Subhash Chopra, Tajdar Babar and Arvinder Singh Lovely favoured an alliance with AAP in Delhi.

Moreover, Delhi Congress President Dikshit and three working presidents Devender Yadav, Rajesh Lilothia and Haroon Yusuf maintained their stand against the alliance.

It has been seen that the Congress leadership seems divided over the forging alliance as one faction wants the alliance with the AAP to defeat the BJP in Delhi while the other is strongly against it.

Dikshit also wrote a letter to Rahul Gandhi saying that an alliance with the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP party would harm the prospects of the Congress in the Lok Sabha polls.

The Lok Sabha polls is slated to be held on May 12 in Delhi.
