Dibrugarh town’s traffic woes touched new heights

Dibrugarh: The traffic problem in the town is rising acutely. Despite the burning issue having been reported several times in the recent past, the matter, instead of being addressed, has touched new heights.

The area near the Gurudwara, close to Big Bazaar, has become downright chaotic. The stretch, which is a part of NH-37, and which starts from Mali Patty to Phool Bagan, is fast becoming disorderly with more and more number of vehicles hitting the road. What makes things worse is the fact that commercial vehicles like Traveller and Winger have started parking their rides alongside the stretch at several places. With the opening of the Bogibeel bridge, these commercial vehicles are having a roaring business with the number of people living on both the banks of the river interacting at various levels like never before.

While all this has been good at a broader level, especially from the perspective of trade, commerce and culture, the general public of the town is paying a steep price for it in the form of long delays, loss of valuable time, air pollution and most importantly, a threat to life caused by rash driving and too much traffic on road. Also, the situation becomes all the more alarming for someone who needs to be admitted to Assam Medical College and Hospitals or any other private nursing home on an urgent basis.

There has been a sense of frustration and displeasure gathering momentum among the public regarding such sorry state of affairs. The government agencies responsible for maintaining order on highways and roads should take note of the menacing problem and nip it in the bud.
