Dohling visits SMB employees’ quarters

Shillong, July 7: State Urban Affairs Minister, Hamletson Dohling on Friday visited the quarters meant for the employees of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) which in now temporarily housing the office of the board.

It may be mentioned that office of the SMB from Jail Road has been temporarily shifted to the quarters of the employees of SMB at Bishop Cotton Road.

Dohling inspected the temporary office of the SMB hours after he had visited the office of the Jowai Municipal Board, Jowai, West Jaiñtia Hills district.

During the inspection the Urban Affairs Minister was accompanied BS Sohliya, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the SMB. As of now the quarters of the SMB houses the office of the board in four blocks – Block-A, Block-B, Block-C and Block-D.

Speaking to media persons after the inspection, Dohling said, “The objective of constructing the quarters here (Bishop Cotton Road) is to house the employees of the board. But at the moment it can’t be done because the office of the board is presently housed here. Once the office of the board at Jail Road is completed our job would be to allot these quarters to our employees,” Dohling said. The Urban Affairs Minister also informed that the state government last month issued a show cause notice to HM Cements Ltd for failing to pay rent to the state government for the land it took on lease from SMB, besides not completing its building.
