Drug Peddler Caught In Panjabari, Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Acting on a tip off about a drug peddler selling narcotics at Panjabari, Silpagram road, a search operation was carried out at the said area on Thursday at about 7.30 pm. During the search, a drug peddler namely Md Noor Islam S/O Lt Kadam Ali, who has been staying at a rented place in Bagrital Panjabari, PS- Satgaon, fled away on seeing the police party, but the police team managed to apprehend him. Upon search, 20 plastic phials containing Brown Sugar suspected to be narcotic drugs was recovered which was kept conceal inside his bike helmet. 70 grams suspected narcotic drugs were also found. The accused was forwarded to the judicial custody on Friday.

With drugs business glutting the markets, a sudden escalation in its smuggling has been noticed since the past few days. Several arrests and drugs have been seized under numerous investigations. It is to be noted that in 2017, a massive contraband of drugs den was unearthed at SK Bhuyan Path, Ambari. In 2018, as many as 83 cases were registered under the NDPS Act as a sum total of the police stations in the city, where drugs worth Rs 1,49,08,908 were seized. These included cannabis, Brown Sugar, Heroin, Opium, etc. However, of the total amount, Rs 64,69,750 included of cannabis (ganja) only.
