RPF Crime Intelligence Branch Guwahati arrests drug peddler with sedatives

GUWAHATI: In view of Anti-drug abuse and illicit trafficking Day observed on Wednesday, a team of RPF Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) of Guwahati led by Inspector Ranjit Kr Bezbaruah, conducted surveillance at Guwahati Rly Station in the night of Wednesday specially against drugging of Railway Passengers. In course of the surveillance the team kept close watch over one suspected person moving in the concourse area of Guwahati Railway station. At about 4.30 am they noticed that the said suspected person had taken out one mobile phone from one passenger sleeping at the main entrance gate of the station and ran away. Immediately the above team along with one on duty RPF staff of GHY Post chased the person and could apprehend him on the Paltanbazar link foot over bridge of the station with recovery of the stolen Samsung Galaxy J-2 PRO mobile phone.

The owner of the recovered mobile phone namely Jaharuddin Haque S/O Samsul Haque of Islampur, Dangtol, Bongaigaon also arrived at the spot and identified his stolen mobile phone. On thorough search of the apprehended person in presence of witnesses could make further recovery of 30 Nos of Ativan 2 mg Lorazepam tablets in one strip from his bag, 30 numbers of loose tablets in three small paper packets suspected to be sedative tablets from his left side pant pocket, one wallet stolen from unknown person containing cash Rs 710 and one SBI ATM card from his right side pant pocket.

The apprehended drugger disclosed his name as Majnur Ali, 23 yrs S/O Md Roshan Ali of Vill- Ghoga PS- Mukalmua Dist- Nalbari (Assam) and confessed his involvement in drugging and Theft of Rly passenger belongings for last six months. The recovered 60 Nos of sedative tablets and other items have been seized by Inspector RPF Crime Intelligence Branch, GHY on the spot and the person has been taken into custody. Later on the arrested accused person along with seized materials handed over to OC GRPS GHY, who registered a case vide No 106/19 U/S 379,328 IPC.
