Excise department conducts raid in search of illicit liquor

Silchar: Last Monday afternoon two raids were conducted under the supervision of excise superintendent Sunil Sinha at Silchar (Sadar) circle and Barkhola excise circle. Altogether 8 numbers of cases were detected involving arrest of 6 persons. 6.66 litres of Indian made foreign liquor, 28 litres of illicitly distilled liquor, 45 litres of fermented wash, 2 sets of distilling apparatus were recovered. Areas of Arunaband Basti, Katogirah and Kalain were thoroughly searched and raided. Lakhipur excise team also conducted an early morning raid in Burthol tea estate area. 2 persons were arrested u/s 53(1)(a), (c) and (d). They were produced before the Lakhipur sub divisional judicial magistrate court.
