Fodder scam: Supreme Court notice to CBI on Lalu Prasad Yadav's bail plea

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on a plea by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad seeking bail in multi-million fodder scam cases. The bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Sanjiv Khanna gave the investigating agency two weeks’ time to file its response to the bail plea by the former Chief Minister.

Appearing for Lalu Prasad, senior counsel Kapil Sibal told the court that Yadav had already been in jail for the last 22 months and was not in proper state of health. A part of his continuing incarceration, following conviction in three fodder scam cases, Prasad has spent in hospital on account of his indifferent health. Prasad moved the top court against January 10 Jharkhand High Court rejecting his plea for bail. (IANS)
