Shillong, July 14: Shillong is bracing itself to celebrate the festival of football on Sunday evening when France will lock horn with Croatia in the final of the FIFA World Cup.
While the match will be played at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow thousands of kilometers away, football lovers of the city will head down to the JN Stadium to catch the action on a giant screen set up for the occasion.
Entry to the venue is free. There will be plenty of fun right from 3 pm, with musical acts, a DJ, amazing freestyle footy demonstration, plenty of games and food stalls to upkeep the energy level of the fans.
According to B Shangpliang, a football enthusiast, she will surely head for the JN Stadium on Sunday to watch the final on the giant screen. A Croatian fan, she said, “The final will be the replay of 1998 World cup semi-final but this time it will be different because Croatia will have their revenge…. Croatia for the first time will be the winner of FIFA World cup.” While another football fan, S Lyngdoh who is rooting for France said, “Just wait and see France will thrash Croatia.” Meanwhile, similar giant screens will also be set up all over the state, particularly in Tura, West Garo Hills, Jaiñtia Eastern College, East Jaiñtia Hills.
