Gold Bars Worth Rs 2.30 Crore Seized by Assam Rifles in Mizoram

Aizawl Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) in conjunction with Department of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Aizawl recovered 47 Gold Bars weighing about 7.482 Kg’s with an approximate market value of ₹ 2,39,83,529 at Sihphir, Aizawl on Thursday.

The two individuals carrying the gold bars had kept the gold hidden in the handle of a suitcase trolley. The Assam Rifles jawans obstructed the smugglers travelling in a Tata Sumo at a Mobile Vehicle Check Post established by the joint team.

After the initial round of investigation, the two apprehended people have admitted to carrying the gold bars from Tiddim, Myanmar to Aizawl and then to Guwahati. The smugglers are being handed over by Assam Rifles to DRI, Aizawl. Notably, this is another successful venture by the Assam Rifles against the illegal export of gold, weapons, drugs & contraband. Assam Rifles have been conducting such operations in close cooperation with police, NGO’s and other government agencies.
