Government mulls on constructing bypasses in major Indian cities

SHILLONG: The Government is contemplating on constructing bypasses in important cities of the country under Bharatmalain order to avoid congestion, an official release stated on Monday.

28 Ring Roads, 125 Choke Points and 66 Congestion Points have been identified in the entire country under Phase-I of Bharatmala Pariyojana, where interventions have been planned. The major cities in the North Eastern states where such intervention have been planned are Guwahati, Imphal, Silchar, Shillong, Dibrugarh, Dimapur and Aizawl.

A total budget outlay of Rs 5,35,000 crore has been earmarked for Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-I proposed to be executed over a period of five years i.e. from 2017-18 to 2021-22. This information has been given by the Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Shipping and Chemical & Fertilizers Mansukh L Mandaviya in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on Monday.
