Hamarasan Sing Thangkhiew sworn in as Meghalaya High Court Judge

SHILLONG: Hamarasan Sing Thangkhiew was on Monday sworn in as the judge of the Meghalaya High Court.

Thangkhiew was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir on the premises of the High Court.

With his swearing in Thangkhiew thus becomes the first Khasi judge of the High Court. The Meghalaya High Court was established in March 2013 after making suitable amendments in the Constitution of India and North-Eastern Areas Act of 1971.

Earlier, a bench of the Gauhati High Court had jurisdiction over the state of Meghalaya.

Thangkhiew was born on December 24, 1966.

Prior to his appointment as tudge of the Meghalaya High Court, Thangkhiew was enrolled as an advocate in the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.

He has practised at the Gauhati High Court, principal seat, Guwahati and Shillong bench.
