High level discussion on coal mining in State

Shillong, May 12: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday called on Union Coal Minister Piyush Goyal with a view to taking the discussion forward on coal mining in the State along with Advocate General Amit Kumar.

The Chief Minister and Advocate General also held a separate and detailed discussion with the officials from the Ministry of Coal which was also attended by the Additional Secretary and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Coal.

“The discussion to restart coal mining in Meghalaya has progressed positively. The ministry has asked us to work on different modalities, which are being prepared by the State Government. A team from the ministry is likely to visit the State soon,”said the Chief Minister.

Terming the meeting fruitful, the Chief Minister said, “All cooperation and support has been extended by the Centre to resolve the ban on coal mining in Meghalaya.” In the last two months, the Chief Minister has called on the Union Coal Minister thrice to discuss the issue of coal banning in the State.
