HLC decides on land survey of Sweepers’ Lane

Shillong, June 8: The second meeting of the High Level Committee (HLC), held on Friday with a view to finding a lasting solution to the long pending issue of relocation of the residents of Sweepers’ Lane at Them ïew Mawlong decided to conduct a detailed land survey in the area.

The HLC has asked the Directorate of Land Records and Survey to conduct the survey.

“We have given them 10 days time to complete the survey of the area,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told media persons after the second meeting of the committee here today.

According to Tynsong, who is the Chairman of the panel, at the moment no agency has a detailed map of the Sweepers’ Lane.

“Neither the Municipal Board, nor the Syiem of Mylliem nor the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council has a proper detailed map of the area. Therefore, this exercise is required to be carried out,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.

Tynsong said that the fresh land survey of the area is required to have a clarity since one portion of the land belongs to the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) while another portion belongs to the Hima Mylliem. The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that the committee is also collecting information on the number of 4th grade employees working in various departments and residing in the area. Tynsong also informed that they have co-opted two new members including Tourism Minister, Metbah Lyngdoh and Hill State People’s Democratic Party legislator from Mawkyrwat Renikton L Tongdkhar.
