Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) demands jobs for indigenous tribals

SHILLONG, Aug 27: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Central Executive Committee (CEC) on Monday staged a demonstration outside the office of the Vice Chancellor of North Eastern Hill University(NEHU) demanding the employment of indigenous people of the State for the various vacant posts available at the university.

A number of Council members were also carrying placards along with them expressing the need to employ local qualified youths in NEHU. Speaking to reporters, Wellessly Lyngkhoi Education Secretary of HYC-CEC said, “We demand that candidates who are indigenous tribals of Meghalaya be appointed for the post of Registrar, Finance Officer and Controller of Examination. We are aware that the interview for these post will be conducted from August 27 to 29.”

He said that it has come to their knowledge that there are many vacancies both teaching and administrative posts in many departments in NEHU that are lying vacant for many years. “It is a matter of great concern that many of these posts are lying vacant and we demand that these vacancies be filled up on an urgent basis,” he said. “We demand that these vacancies should be filled up on an urgent basis,” he added. The Council also demanded that the indigenous tribals of Meghalaya be appointed for any vacancies that may come up from time to time in NEHU. When asked, he said, “If the university authorities fail to meet our demands then we will be compelled to resort to other means of action that the Council deems fit in order to protect the rights of the indigenous people of Meghalaya,” he said.
