Shillong: Barely a week after the general secretary of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) Cheristerfeild Thangkhiew sneaked into India from Bangladesh and surrendered before the state police, questions are being raised on whether the friendly neighbour is still harbouring the Indian based insurgents.

The Inspector General of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya frontier L Mohanti stated that the present Bangladesh regime shows no remorse in taking action against Indian terrorist on its soil.

Asked specifically on how the likes of Cheristerfeild Tangkhiew could publically claim to have been staying in Bangladesh, Mohanty stated, "These are people who stayed in that country in false names and they keep changing their residents and that makes it extremely difficult for the security agencies to act and nab them as per the sharing of intelligence inputs." Mohanty also added that the Bangladesh government has also taken stern action against such elements including the fundamentalist group in a big way.

However, he was apt in adding that there are still insurgents from our country who are living in all sorts of disguise to evade arrest and are thriving along with the Bangladeshi criminals through extortions along the Indo- Bangladesh border.

Speaking about the ethnic relations between the border populace in the form of clans and marriages, the BSF Inspector General also spoke about the constraints in determining any intruder along the Meghalaya frontier. The surrendered HNLC general secretary was in Nohksiar (Khasi village of Bangladesh) before he sneaked into India through the porous border and the outfit Commander-in-Chief Bobby Reagan Marwein is still residing in Bangladesh.

The BSF IG also sees light at the end of the tunnel while quoting that his inputs that the few who are still hiding in Bangladesh will feel the pressure and surrender in the days to come.
