Jet Airways Flight Delayed after Young Passenger Jokes of Terrorist in the Plane

Guwahati: A young passenger who boarded a Jet Airways’ 9W 472 flight on Monday morning was put down after he cracked jokes on having a terrorist in the plane with his friends. The incident took place when after boarding the flight, the passenger, Poddar covered his face with his handkerchief and started sending WhatsApp texts to his friends who were also in the same flight but in different seats.

The passenger seating next to Poddar, who was not a friend of the former, noticed the incident of Poddar covering his face. In the meantime, the co-passenger also read Poddar’s messages wherein he wrote ‘Terrorist on flight. I destroy women’s hearts.’ Such suspicious behaviour of the young passenger was enough for the other to freak out and inform the cabin crew. The cabin crew informed the pilot of the flight about the matter and the pilot immediately got in touch with the airline security. The flight was then directed to postpone its journey and to the custody of Poddar to investigate further on the matter.

An airlines security official states, “After taking his seat, he covered his face with a handkerchief and started sending WhatsApp messages from his phone. A co-passenger sitting next to Poddar got suspicious given his behaviour of covering the face and read the message Poddar was keying in on his phone. One of them read ‘Terrorist on flight. I destroy women’s hearts.”

The official further added, “The pilot told the airline security and the Central Industrial Security Force was informed about Poddar. A CISF team immediately took custody of Poddar and made him get off the aircraft.”

Poddar is a 21-year-old resident of Kolkata and was boarding a Mumbai-bound aircraft from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Airport with friends.

In addition to interrogating Poddar, his baggage was also offloaded and re-examined.

As stated by the official, “The baggage did not have anything suspicious. Poddar said he was joking with his friends. He was handed over to the Kolkata police.”

After all the necessary investigations the Jet flight was allowed to leave the airport after a delay of 1 hour and 10 minutes. The flight had 160 passengers on board.
