GUWAHATI: Jammu & Kashmir beat Assam by four wickets in the elite ‘C’ group Ranji trophy tie at the ACA stadium, Barsapara here today. Chasing 230 runs to win Jammu and Kashmir reached the target in 69.3 overs losing six wickets.

Assam bowlers made good start in the morning. Arup Das, who returned opener Ahmad Omar yesterday, picked up two more wickets quickly this morning to reduce visitors to 21-3. Then Mrinmoy sent back Owais Shah when the total was 64 and it looked like Assam were taking full control on the game.

However a solid 111 runs partnership between captain Parvez Rasool and Shubham Khajuria turned the table for visitors. Both the batsmen scored half century and their individual score also identical. Shubham, who remained not out yesterday, took 194 balls to score 67 with the help of 8 boundaries.

Parvez faced 87 balls to score 67 and there were 11 boundaries in his innings. Former Team India member Irfan Pathan remained not out on 33.

Apart and Mrinmoy finished with 3-46 and 2-59 while the other wicket was collected by Amit Sinha (1-26).

With this win Jammu and Kashmir are now placed in the fifth place in the points table with 19 points from eight games. Assam are at fourth place with 20 points from 8 games.

In the last group match Assam will now face Uttar Pradesh in Kanpur. The match will begin on January 7.
