Khasi-Jaintia Butchers’ Welfare Association Strike Opposed

A REPORTER

SHILLONG: The beef consumers in the city and other parts of the State have voiced their disappointment over the indefinite strike called by the Khasi-Jaintia Butchers’ Welfare Association (KJBWA) since June 7, and have also expressed that they are not supporting the sudden decision taken by the association. The butchers’ association has called for the indefinite strike until a solution is found to the issue concerning cattle smuggling to Bangladesh.

The beef market at Iewduh remained closed on Sunday. According to sources, the KJBWA had not informed the Syiem of Hima Mylliem and the authority at Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) before taking the decision to call an indefinite strike on the sale of beef in the city and other parts of the district in the State. Some of the beef consumers at Iewduh said that the decision of the KJBWA is not the right way to go forward concerning their issues and problems faced by them.
