Khasi Students’ Union Carries Out Plantation Drive In North Khasi Hills

SHILLONG: The North Khasi Hills District Unit (NKHDU) of Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) recently celebrated World Environment Day at Syad Rit and Mawlyngkhung village. The programme at Syad was chaired by Peterson Kylla Environment Secretary, KSU NKHDU. Short speeches were also delivered by village elders at Syad Rit and Syad Heh, including Sumarlang Mawlong Ranger, Forest Department, Ferdynald Kharkamni president, KSU NKHDU and Donald V Thabah general secretary, KSU CEC.

After conclusion of the programme, a drive for planting of tree saplings was carried in which many school students from the village participated besides villagers and officials of the Forest department Umsning Range. The programme at Mawlyngkhung village was organized by Lambok Rymbai, general secretary KSU NKHDU. Among those who addressed the gathering on the occasion were O. Timung representative of the village Dorbar, Ferdynald Kharkamni, Biangbor Paliar and Donald V Thabah.

The tree saplings that were planted by the students and other participants were provided by the Forest Department, Umsning Range. Sumarlang Mawlong, the Forest Officer of Umiam and Umsning Range was present on the occasion.
