KHDA meets on ouster of Syiem

SHILLONG, July 9: A meeting of the newly created Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance (KHDA) comprising 17 MDCs from different political parties, demanding the removal of KHADC chief Pynshngaiñ N Syiem was held on Monday. The Members of District Council (MDC), who are demanding the ouster of Syiem, are drawn from various political parties like the UDP, NPP, HSPDP, PDF the party headed by the KHADC chief himself and independents. It may be mentioned that the ruling alliance in the KHADC comprising all members barring the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) member Adelbert Nongrum is christened as People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA).

However, with the formation of the KHDA, comprising 17 members the PDA has split. The KHDA consists of members from NPP (4), UDP (5), HSPDP (3) and PDF (4) and 1 Independent. According to sources, the alliance has chosen NPP’s HS Shylla as its leader. Meanwhile, the special session of the council will be held on Tuesday. There are also reports that Syiem resigned and is not receiving any calls when attempts are made to contact him.
