Lachit Award for the Pioneering Force behind the NRC in Assam

Guwahati: Assam observed Lachit Divas commemorating Lachit Borphukan, the son of the soil on Saturday. On the occasion of this very special day, Pradip Kumar Bhuyan and Banti Bhuyan are conferred with Lachit Award by Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad (TAYPA) at Sankaradeva Kalashetra in Guwahati today. Notably, the Bhuyan family is the one whose consistent efforts made the NRC update a reality in Assam.

As stated by TAYPA, the couple rightly deserves to be felicitated with the title as they through their act of heroism and true patriotism for the state have proved that they are worth being resembled the legendary Lachit Barphukan.

At this point, it has to be mentioned that it is their untiring effort, dedication, and sacrifice that has made the NRC update a reality today. Unbelievable but the truth is that the Bhuyan couple did not hesitate in spending Rs 75 lakh from their personal account in order to make the NRC updates possible today.

Hence, the selfless service and dedication deserve all the honour, respect and recognition and what can be as best a recognition as the Lachit Award. The award comprises of a cash prize of Rs 50,000.

TAYPA, conferring the award, said, “Our felicitation is just a small token of appreciation for their huge service to the state and the Assamese community.”
