Lakhimpur district Anganwadi workers stage dharna

LAKHIMPUR: Demanding the State Government to fulfil various demands, the Anganwadi workers and the assistants of Lakhimpur district staged a dharna in front of the Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday. The workers and the assistants of the Anganwadi centres across the district, led by Lakhimpur district Anganwadi Workers and Assistants’ Association president Premada Mudai and secretary Amiya Saikia Baruah, at first assembled in front of the Lakhimpur District Social Welfare Department office. Then they took out a protest rally against the State government and arrived at the DC office premises shouting various slogans in support of their long-pending demands.

The Anganwadi workers and the assistants of the district demanded the government to upgrade the qualified working assistants in the post of workers lying vacant for a long time, to dismiss the order to retire the Anganwadi workers and the assistants before paying them the ex-gratia, to pay their remuneration in the first week of every month, to provide them regular pension, to pay the mini Anganwadi workers immediately the amount of Rs. 750 which was granted by the Central Government in 2013, and to upgrade the mini Anganwadi centres to full-fledged Anganwadi centres.

The association submitted a memorandum regarding their demands to the State Social Welfare Department through the Lakhimpur DC. The Anganwadi workers and assistants under eight mandals of the district, except Telahi Mandal, took part in the protest programme.
