LAKHIMPUR: At a time when the shortage of pure drinking water across the State has emerged as a major issue, several pure drinking water supply schemes are in non-functional condition at Narayanpur in Lakhimpur district. Due to such non-functional schemes under Bihpuriya Subdivisional office of the Public Health and Engineering (PHE) Department, the local people have to consume water from unhealthy sources.

Narayanpur Water Supply Scheme has been in a poor condition for several years. Though consecutive petitions were submitted demanding the immediate repair of the scheme, the authority concerned has paid no attention to initiate any steps to address the issue. Similarly, the Kina Pathar Water Supply Scheme, Saokuchi, Jalukkota, Bahu Pathar and Na-Pamua Water Supply Schemes under Narayanpur area are also in a poor condition since a long period. The Naharani and Jutulibari schemes, the Borchapori scheme located in the Assam-Arunachal border area of Lakhimpur district are all in non-functional condition. The affected people of these areas have demanded the PHE department to rejuvenate these pure drinking water supply schemes immediately considering their health issue.
