Lepa Rada becomes 24th Arunachal district

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh on Monday increased its number of districts to 24 after formal inauguration of Lepa Rada district, a day after formal creation of Shi Yomi district, the 23rd district of the state.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu formally inaugurated the new district, which is carved out from Lower Siang district comprising four administrative circles - Tirbin, Dari, Sago and Basar.

The new district has its headquarters at Basar. MKhandu unveiled the vision statement of the new district wherein it promises to make Lepa Rada a model district where rule of law, discipline, equality, brotherhood, peace, social harmony, progress and prosperity shall be the guiding principles.

The choef minister also unveiled the bust of Todak Basar and also laid the foundation stone for Karko Heritage cum museum building. He further inaugurated the 4 km PMGSY road from Basar to Lape executed by Rural Works Department (RWD), an official communiqué informed.

Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, who was also present on the occasion, inaugurated the 15m RCC slab bridge over Sie River while deputy chief minister Chowna Mein Chowna Mein inaugurated the office of the executive engineer of PWD Highway division.

Congratulating the people on the occasion, Khandu said the dreams that were sown ten years back has finally been fulfilled. He said it was on this day in 2008 that former CM Dorjee Khandu had promised to fulfil the wishes of Lepa Rada citizens.

The chief minister also read out the vision statement and urged the people to stand by it.

He said the zeal and enthusiasm to make Lepa Rada a model district is already visible and hoped that in days to come the mission would be fulfilled.

The chief minister promised that for creation of infrastructure for development of new district headquarters, funds provision would be placed in the coming budget session. He also assured that for immediate functioning of the new headquarters whatever initial funding is required would be fulfilled.

Khandu appreciated the local NGO, the GRK - Gumin Rego Kilaju an NGO, for its commendable work in preservation of natural ecosystem of the Basar area and working for sustainable development.

The state Assembly on August 29 this year had passed a bill for creation of three new districts - Pakke-Kesang, Lepa Rada and Shi Yomi - in the state.
