Many File Papers For Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Polls

SHILLONG: A number of candidates contesting the MDC elections for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) scheduled for February 27, on Tuesday filed their nomination papers at the Deputy Commissioners office East Khasi Hills district, Shillong.

Some of the candidates included sitting NPP MDC Pyniaid Sing Syiem from Mawryngkneng, Grace Mary Kharpuri Congress, Teibor Pathaw independent candidate from Mawlai, Saralynda Kharpuri UDP candidate from Mawkhar- Pynthorumkhrah, Gilbert Laloo HSPDP candidate from Mylliem beside others.

Speaking to reporters, Gilbert Laloo said, “I have taken this decision to contest the election form HSPDP because I feel betrayed as I had given everything to support the PDF and Hamlet Dohling in the MLA election however the ticket was given to another candidate.”

He said that despite having to contest the election against former Minister Ronnie V Lyngdoh and Deputy CEM of KHADC T Thangkhiew; he has strong faith in the people of the constituency that they would support him.

NPP candidate from Mawkynrew, Pyniaid Sing Syiem said, “Today six of us have filed our nomination papers and we are confident that all of us will win the election. We want that the new executive committee in the KHADC will be united and have close relations with the state government so that the desire of the people can be achieved.”

Meanwhile, Teibor Pathaw said, “I have taken this decision to contest as an independent candidate but if the situation demands we will see what will happen. The important thing is to look after the interest of the people.”
