Meghalaya Cements Company Employees Union (MCCEU) To Go On Demonstration

Shillong: The Meghalaya Cements Company Employees Union (MCCEU) will go on a one-day demonstration and strike on Friday at its office in Sohra to press for their pending demands. Earlier, this week a general body meeting of the union met to decide to agitate to press the government to fulfill its demands.

“We have decided to go for a demonstration-cum-strike on December 14 to demand from the government to fulfill our long pending demands,” MCCEU, president S Diengdoh said. According to Diengdoh, the members of the union will shut operations of the Company from 6 am to 4 pm and demonstrate in front of the office of the MCCL. It may be mentioned that on November 21, the MCCEU served a 14 day notice to the Meghalaya Government and the management to comply with its five-point demand or face agitation.

The union has served the notice as repeated plea to the government and the management has not yielded any result on its demand that includes releasing pending salaries from August 2015 to March 2016.

Moreover, the management is yet to release overtime payments from two periods – from November 2013 to December 2016 and from May 2017 to the present day.

The union had said some of the other demands include providing the 240-odd permanent employees a safe environment to work in, payment for working overtime and medical facilities.
