Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma files nominations for South Tura seat

Shillong, July 31: Chief Minister, Conrad Kongkal Sangma on Tuesday filed his nominations for the South Tura by-polls which fell vacant after Agatha K Sangma quit the seat. Before filing his nomination Conrad visited his father’s (Purno Agitok Sangma) grave where a short service was held.

He filed three sets of nominations. Conrad was accompanied by North Tura, MLA Thoman A Sangma his supporters and well-wishers. He filed his nomination before, Sabrella Marak, the returning officer.

Speaking to media persons after filing his nominations, Conrad said, Tura is the de-facto headquarters of Garo Hills region and a lot needs to be a done infrastructure wise.

“It is not easy to change everything overnight but efforts will be on and as an MLA if I were to be given an opportunity to represent South Tura, infrastructure and amenities will be one of the key areas,” the Chief Minister said.

He also thanked Agatha for vacating the seat for him. “It was a sacrifice on her part,” the Chief Minister said.

Conrad said that he was excited about this election since he felt like he was coming home since he had stayed in South Tura. “Every election is hard and I hope that the people of South Tura will give me an opportunity for work for them” Conrad added.

Conrad who sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state on March 6, has to be elected as an MLA by September 6.

The by-poll will be held on August 23 the counting will be held on August 27.
