Meghalaya observes Good Friday

Staff Correspondent

Shillong: Along with the Christian community across the world, Meghalaya too observed Good Friday, a day that holds special significance for the community as it commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Young and old thronged the churches of different denominations across the State with solemnity. Churches resounded with the hymns and sermons from the altar which reminded the faithful of the sacrifice that Jesus Christ had made more 2000 years ago.

Good Friday is a religious Christian holiday observed during the Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Black Friday or Easter Friday, though the latter properly refers to the Friday in Easter week.

From the altar, the Church leaders were heard of proclaiming the love that God has for its people and how he sacrificed his only Son for the world’s salvation. They orated on how the world needs to get back to its belief in Christ and his love for the people and to shy away from worldly temptations, hatred and prejudice which will lead to nothing but destruction of mankind.
