Meghalaya State Planning Board ‘Go Green’ Roadmap to take off Soon

Staff Correspondent

Shillong: The first full fledged meeting of Meghalaya State Planning Board (MSPB) held on Friday stressed on the ‘go green’ concept to revive the traditional woven bags (pla iew) and to bolster the use of the local leave called ‘Sla lamet’ (peratorium) in order to curtail the use of plastics in the state.

Informing newsmen about the plan, the MSPB chairman Lambor Malngiang said, “This is our move to discourage the use of plastics and the mission would kickstart sooner or later,” while adding, “we have to take the mantle in ourselves after seeing the menace of plastics in the state, particularly in Shillong.” The MSPB will kick off with a three-month programme by including all the departments concerned with the integration basin development programme. Stating that this will be a pilot project to start from Shillong, Malngiang also said that the objective is “besides reducing the menace of plastics, we can also boost up the Sla planters in the rural areas and revive the decreasing producers of Pla”. He said that it’s more of re-booting the people involved in the business that has taken a down ward turn.
