MMCH Declared Nodal Hospital for Japanese Encephalitis Patients

GUWAHATI: The Mahendra Mohan Chowdhury Hospital (MMCH) has been declared a nodal hospital by the DC Kamrup (Metro) Biswajeet Pegu, for the treatment of patients suffering from Japanese Encephalitis (JE). The declaration was made at a meeting on Friday by the District Task Force on JE at the DC Conference Hall.

In the meeting, the precautionary measures taken up by the District Administration was discussed at length. Both GMCH (Guwahati Medical College and Hospital) and MMCH hospital authorities were asked to take appropriate steps to ensure JE patients’ suitable treatment and comfort. The hospitals were also questioned about their treatment methodical and discussed about the facilities implemented for the care of JE patients.

Further, the decision was taken that the District Hospital in Sonapur is developed to accommodate JE patients. As such, the Director of Health was asked to take appropriate measures. The Department of Health, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, P & RD (Panchayat and Rural Development), PHE (Public Health Engineering), Agriculture, Fisheries, Social Welfare and various other departments were present in the meeting, and the officers discussed at length about the preventative measures that are already in place and more that can be implemented to combat JE. The DC also asked the department officers to stage awareness programmes, especially in educational institutes in rural areas, and asked the Health Department to take appropriate steps to stop the spread of JE.
